- جسم آلی جامد و سوخت طبیعی سیاه رنگ که در اعماق مختلف زمین (زیر سطح زمین) قرار دارد و از تباهی و تلاشی باکتریهای گیاهی که 40 تا 300 میلیون سال پیش روئیده اند و در پی فرایندهای شیمیایی تراکم و پلیمریزاسیون در اثر دما، فشار و زمان طولانی پدید آمده اند.

- Coal is a readily combustible black or brownish-black sedimentary rock. The harder forms, such as anthracite coal, can be regarded as metamorphic rock because of later exposure to elevated temperature and pressure.
